Amanda Carmine

Zone:  Animal Care

Adopted: May 2015

Number of Pets: 1 dog (Kirby); 1 cat (Skitty); 1 guinea pig (Alice); 1 tarantula (Sebastian); and 2 rats (Pixie and Pearl)

Amanda first came to Patton Veterinary Hospital thanks to a job fair at the York Technical Institute (YTI), where she is currently studying to be a veterinary technician.

“I heard so many people talk about how amazing Patton is and I knew I wanted to expand my knowledge here,” she says. “I love watching the vets in surgery and the technicians that help them throughout the day.”

And the drive to work as a veterinary technician someday herself was fueled when a close friend of her mother, who was a vet at a local clinic, gave Amanda the opportunity to watch the techs in action.

“I knew I wanted to be a technician right then and there and I was only 6 years old!” Amanda says.

Amanda was born in Baltimore, Md., but was raised in Stewartstown and graduated in 2008 from Kennard Dale. She now currently resides in Hellam with her husband, Dustin, and is the mother of daughter Aurora Hope Carmine. She is a self-proclaimed “nerd” who “loves studying and learning everything and anything possible at school and at Patton,” she says.

Among her other interests are drawing, spending time with her own fur babies and husband, writing poetry, reading, traveling and trying new things like sushi, which she loves. It’s hard for her to pick a favorite animal though.

“I believe there is no such thing as a ‘favorite animal,’” Amanda says. “I love them all!”

Working in the Animal Care zone has its challenges, but also a lot of rewards, Amanda says. She ends up wanting to adopt all the boarders at PVH when they stay here, making it hard to say goodbye when their owners come to pick them up.

“I enjoy coming in to my boarders and feeding them, giving them a nice clean space, a nice blanket to keep them warm and play time. Play time is a must. I feel like I am family to them. It’s so rewarding!” she says. “I am learning so much and I have only been here for a short amount of time. It’s great!”
