Emily Kerns

Emily joined the Patton Veterinary Hospital’s Animal Care team in November, 2018. She is a York native and graduate of Dallastown High School. Emily spent three years at Millersville with the intention of becoming a history teacher, but she changed her mind and decided to pursue a career in veterinary medicine enrolling in York Technical Institute’s veterinary technician program instead.

Emily owns a variety of pets: her first cat, a Siamese named Martin, Ava the Lab, Lincoln a miniature Schnauzer, Zoey a Yorkie/Chihuahua mix and self-proclaimed queen of the house, and Jeffery a cockatiel. She says that if she could own any animal in the world as a pet, she would want an “adorable and goofy” Puffin!

She has varied interests such as watching movies, going to see her dad play with his band, Stone Biskit, and she is an avid gamer in her free time. Emily hopes to visit Japan one day to enjoy the food and culture. Her favorite quote is from the anime character Sailor Moon, “A future is something you make yourself. You have to believe in it!”

Emily discusses her change of heart in her career goal: “Growing up, I always had a special place in my heart for animals! My grandfather was a veterinarian, and I believe his passion for them was passed on to me as well….I thought I wanted to be a history teacher, but after three years of college…and some bad teaching experiences, I decided it wasn’t for me. That is when I found the vet tech program at YTI and…YTI then brought me to Patton with my externship and I fell in love with the hospital and staff. I am very excited to both continue my education here and be part of the Patton crew!”

We are just as excited to have Emily as part of our staff and to help her grow and learn along the way!
