Tammy M. joined our Client Relations team in January, 2017. She thought that working for PVH would be “a great way to do what she loves and get paid as well,” and she is really enjoying
working here. She is a graduate of Penn State Berks and Berks Vo-Tech West as well as being a certified EMT and personal trainer. Originally from Robesonia, PA, she currently lives in York
City with four dogs named Heidi, Sinbad, Diago and Nina, who are search and rescue and K9 Pets therapy dogs.
Tammy is a member of the York County Camera Club, but her passion is working with dogs and she volunteers for the SPCA, Animal Rescue, Find Toby, and Paws for Vets. She works with K9
Pets.
On her days off, Tammy enjoys taking a long walk in the woods with her dog and her camera “enjoying the peace and quiet of nature and all of its beauty.” She recently purchased a Canon camera
that she had long desired and aspires to use it visiting all of our National Parks.
Tammy’s reasons for wanting to work in the veterinary field are quite personal and inspirational. She had dreamed of becoming a veterinarian, but a serious auto accident in 1999 put those
dreams on hold as she endured multiple surgeries to reconstruct her spine and, ultimately, she lost her leg. Tammy suffered from depression following the accident, but found hope and healing
in the form of a two year old Rottweiler she discovered while volunteering at the Animal Rescue League of Berks County. She and her Rottie were constant companions doing everything together
including search and rescue and pet therapy. Sadly, her beloved dog lost her life to bone cancer in 2016. Despite being heartbroken at losing her constant companion, Tammy has persevered in
continuing to train dogs in Search and Rescue. She says that training dogs makes her “feel complete again with getting back to the tasks that helped me forget about all the painful operations
I was going through.” It gives her “a sense of pride and purpose. There [is] nothing more rewarding than finding a missing loved one.”
Tammy’s personal philosophy is summed up in a quote from Deputy Kyle Pagerly. “If you stopped yourself every time you said, ‘I have to…’ and change it to ‘I get to…’ it might change your
entire experience.” We are happy that she has chosen to use her many talents to benefit our hospital and our community.
