Carley

Adopted: October 2009
Number of pets: 1 dogs and 4 cats

Nurse Carley Love joined the PVH staff in October 2009. Born in York, Carley holds a bachelors degree in elementary education from Millersville University. She was a substitute teacher with the West Shore School District, and has worked in several areas of animal care, both as a nurse and also as a kennel assistant. After spending time in both fields, her passion for animals won out.

Carley serves as inpatient nursing coordinator for PVH. The inpatient staff holds the responsibility of caring for all pets admitted into the hospital, either for surgical procedures or because of illness. Although each patient presents its own set of challenges, Carley often finds the most difficult cases also the most rewarding—“Pets sometimes come to us when they are very, very sick. I love it when we are able to fix them!”

A self confessed “cat lady”, Carley remembers falling in love with felines at an early age. To this day, she admits that kittens always capture her heart right away, and she enjoys the times when she is able to engage in kitty playtime at the hospital. Her own family of cats includes two that she rescued as kittens—Voltron, who she saved from a storm drain during a heavy downpour and Magg Pie, who she found on a walk through the woods crying and in need of veterinary help.

An avid biking and hiking enthusiast, Carley also practices yoga for its mental as well as physical benefits. She enjoys reading fantasy novels and listening to music to unwind, and maintains a part-time nursing job at the Animal Emergency and Referral Center (AERC) on Queen St in York.

As for her team members at PVH, Carley feels nothing but love and admiration. “There is a sense of community here among the staff,” she says proudly. “It really does feel like family.”
