Happy National Veterinary Technician Week 2020!

Happy National Veterinary Technician Week!

Every October, we celebrate Veterinary Technician Week. Vet techs are indispensable to the veterinary field.  While they have a softer side, they are anything but fragile.  Veterinary technicians display phenomenal skills: they perform anesthesia, draw blood, give injections, place IV catheters, administer medications and perform many other nursing skills on a variety of animal species no less!  They update medical records, clean cages and clean our hospital in conjunction with our animal care staff who we also celebrate this week.

But they are so much more than their technical skills.  Veterinary technicians comfort and care for patients recovering from anesthesia, they provide a cuddle or a chin scratch to hospitalized patients, they make sure pets have as anxiety-free an experience as possible. They answer questions, listen to client concerns, provide words of comfort or a shoulder to cry on.  They celebrate new puppies and kittens and they mourn the loss of patients in their last moments.  Vet techs do the heavy lifting so to speak—it’s a very physical job!  But they have caring hearts and kind souls and our practice would be nothing without their compassion, hard work and dedication.

This year in particular has been a hard one with challenges that we never thought we would face. Our vet techs rose to the challenge, and, though often stressed and stretched thin, they continue to work hard every single day and to do it with a smile!

Patton Veterinary Hospital wishes to thank each and every veterinary technician as well as our animal care staff who keep our boarding patients safe and comfortable and who keep our hospital clean.
