Holiday Happenings at Patton Veterinary Hospital

Holiday Happenings at Patton Veterinary Hospital

We have been enjoying a relatively warm fall, but the spicy scent of fall leaves and the brisk chill in the morning air tell us winter is coming and the holiday season is upon us.  I’m not quite sure I am ready for Thanksgiving this week, let alone thoughts of Christmas (though I need to get in gear as I am cooking and hosting family this year!) but I am always ready for our community events that allow us to say thanks and give to those in need.

Patton Veterinary Hospital has been collecting food, treats and pet supplies for the pets of members of the Red Lion Senior Center for the past ten years for the Pet Meals on Wheels Program.  This is a much anticipated holiday tradition and clients and employees as well as others in the community have always been very generous with their donations to this worthy cause.  We are told there are over 50 pets in need this year.  Stop by PVH with a donation of a new bag of dog or cat food, new toys or pet beds or cat litter for this worthy cause.

Patton Veterinary Hospital is also proud to sponsor a Christmas tree again this year at the Rocky Ridge Christmas Magic display.  Thousands of lights, train displays and Santa himself are on view nightly from 6 to 9 PM from November 27th to December 31st (closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day) for a nominal fee.  The theme this year revolves around family and our employees each made an ornament to hang on the tree representing what their families mean to them.  While pets are not usually allowed at Rocky Ridge for Christmas Magic, they are welcome for one night on Wednesday, December 2nd (rain date Thurs December 3rd).  Pets can have their pictures taken with Santa for $5.00 to benefit Friends of Canine Meadows according to the park website.  If you have never been, it is a fantastic way to get into the holiday spirit.  Make sure to look for the Patton tree and tell us your favorite ornament!

This is NOT a PVH event, but the York County SPCA is holding their Fifth Annual Luminary Festival at the shelter on Saturday December 19 from 4-8PM.  It is a nice way to honor a pet or remember one who has passed and to support the SPCA by purchasing a luminary for $20.00 by December 17th.  Look for one in memory of my Stanley if you go.  We do have a few order forms on our bulletin board in the lobby.  Contact York County SPCA for more information.

By the way, if the dog runs off with a turkey leg or the cat gets into the cranberry sauce, we can’t save your Thanksgiving, but we are open regular hours from 8 AM to 8 PM on Friday, November 27th if your pet is ill.

Patton Veterinary Hospital wants to wish you and your families—both the two and four-legged variety— a safe, healthy and Happy Thanksgiving!
