It's National Veterinary Technician Week!

Help Patton Veterinary Hospital Celebrate National Veterinary Technician Week!

October 14-20, 2018 marks National Veterinary Technician Week celebrating Veterinary Nursing in Action.  Patton Veterinary Hospital wants to take this opportunity to thank our veterinary technicians for their exemplary work and dedication to the profession.

Veterinary technicians work hard.  They arrive early to get things ready-- stocking rooms, setting up our surgery suite and making sure things are organized and stocked so the day runs smoothly.  They stay late, cleaning up, completing last minute treatments for hospital patients and filling pharmacy orders.  They draw blood, take x-rays, vaccinate patients, place IV catheters, trim nails, record patient histories, prep and monitor patients during and after anesthesia and surgery, and care for hospitalized pets.  They celebrate and show off new puppies and kittens and they share the sorrow with our clients when it is time for a pet to cross the rainbow bridge.

The compassion, knowledge and nursing skills of our veterinary technicians are unparalleled, and not one of our techs would be here if she did not ultimately love animals and love what she does.  They are never remiss to offer an extra pat on the head or scratch under the chin and they know how to handle all sorts of creatures be they covered in fur, feathers or scales.  They represent the heart and soul of the veterinary field and are an integral part of the veterinary team.  We could not do things half as well without their help.

The veterinary technician’s oath states:

"I solemnly dedicate myself to aiding animals and society by providing excellent care and services for animals, by alleviating animal suffering, and promoting public health.

I accept my obligations to practice my profession conscientiously and with sensitivity, adhering to the profession's Code of Ethics, and furthering my knowledge and competence through a commitment to lifelong learning."

Our veterinary technicians live and uphold this oath every day. They are truly a remarkable group, and they deserve our thanks and gratitude this week and every week for a job well done!

From all the Patton doctors and staff, thank you to all our veterinary technicians!
