            Patton Veterinary Hospital is pleased to offer a new tool to keep your pet safe and healthy.  The Pet Wellness Report (PWR) is an online questionnaire designed to show what you are doing right to keep your pet healthy and to identify areas where your pet may be at risk for certain illnesses or problems.  You live with your pet and know his or her habits best.  We only get a few minutes to interact with you and your pet during an exam.  By filling out the PWR, it may help us focus on areas of risk during your appointment to make sure your pet is getting the best possible care.  This also serves to make you more aware of potential problems and to allow you to play a bigger part in deciding what is right for your pet in terms of healthcare.  Best of all, this powerful tool is now free!   

 The PWR has sections that help to determine your pet’s individual risk for heart disease, cancer, dental disease, overall safety and your pet’s nutrition.  Based on the results, we may recommend diagnostic tests to further evaluate your pet or we may have a conversation about dental care, diet, or parasite preventatives.  This may even help to uncover early or subclinical illness (illness or disease present in your pet but for which there are not yet any overt symptoms).  Studies show that as many as 4 in 10 pets have some degree of subclinical illness.  How great would it be if we could slow the progression of chronic kidney disease or be able to monitor early thyroid changes in your cat or dog because we saw early warning signs?

            Ideally, the PWR should be filled out prior to your pet’s preventive care exam so that we can discuss any areas of concern during the exam.  Be honest when you answer the questions!  We get out of the report only what you put into it.  You can try it out or fill it out anytime by following the questionnaire link under the “services” tab on our website, www.pattonvethospital.com.  The free code is listed in this section.
